Testing is above studying. It is better to try something out in practice than to derive it theoretically. I was able to make this experience while hauling trout with the Rhino Bait Holder System. The timeless topic of “treble hooks or single hooks when catching trout” comes up again and again. I first had to make numerous attempts before a particularly successful assembly emerged.
I actually really like to use single hooks when fishing with the bait holder system. In doing so, however, I repeatedly encountered problems with the attachment of the hook in the tail root area. Simply letting the hook dangle freely failed right from the start and also resulted in a high number of bad bites. So I got up close and personal with the Rhino Bait Holder System and after several attempts came across the following method and a desirable result:
For this I needed high-quality triplets and single hooks, a fluorocarbon leader, ball bearing swivel, a boilie needle and boilie stopper from the carp area and silicone pellet bands from the feeder area.
First, the bait holder system is mounted in the conventional way, the end treble is replaced by a single hook and the pellet tape is pulled onto the hook. Then the rubber of the silicone pellet tape is threaded through the base of the tail with a boilie needle. The necessary fixation on the opposite side is done by a boilie stopper. Then you attach the bait fish to the system and the treble can be brought to the desired position. Now the system with the curvature only has to be adapted to the towing speed and off you go.
In order to avoid twist, I like to add an anti-kink in order to achieve a certain attraction. Should it ever be less conspicuous, a small lead clip on the carabiner can reliably prevent the twist on the main line.
You have to invest some time for this assembly. A perfect position of the hook is very important and can often make the difference between success and failure. As the saying goes: "Without diligence, no price!"
With this in mind, I wish you a lot of fun trying it out, sunny greetings from the pond.
